My Latest Twitter Updates

  • .@adrallud Only 6 hours until Senator Fielding transitions. Show some respect on this sad day… #
  • @awelder "Distrusting or disparaging the motives of others" … the ultimate compliment in my book! #
  • @awelder Would you accept that I try to only link to things that are worth reading? #
  • @awelder It probably is and perhaps I should have used "sceptical" or some such. But cynicism has its place, esp given our topic. #
  • And now I've nearly sliced my finger off with a bread knife. My kitchen sink is awash with blood. It must be punishment for something. #
  • @awelder Don't use emoticons with me – I only have to look them up. Have enough trouble with English. #
  • @downesy Instructions on how open a bandaid with one hand would help. #
  • @downesy Bandaids obviously have a use-by date. Mine seem to be so old they're impervious to all manner of ripping. #
  • "Prudential politics" – Helen Coonan's description of the work of the Senate. #TheNation #
  • @fiorfo I think she said it was a "muscular" place which isn't quite the same thing! #
  • @laceyhd Thanks… have we not met in my previous life? #
  • George McGovern, now nearly 89 years old, has moved his office into the Watergate complex in Washington DC. Irony or last laugh? #
  • @WNBSprague Not at all! #
  • @steveathan Yes. Only won Massachusetts and DC. #
  • @steveathan 72 was bigger popular vote win than 84, but Reagan just pipped 72 on electoral votes. Both comfortable wins! #
  • @laceyhd I thought so – pays to check on here. How dire are the statewide enrolments in the subject now? #
  • Anyone out there using SugarSync, OpenDrive or SpiderOak? Recommendations? Problems? Looking for continuous sync and mobile access. #
  • @steveathan That's the Silent Majority for you. #
  • @laceyhd That is so sad. Those days of being in the top 10 enrolments seem so distant. #
  • @simonarwilson I use it already and it is good. But others price better, plus I want to stream for website use which they don't cater for. #
  • @laceyhd Feel free to give me suggestions for website content. I'm rejigging it these days. #
  • @Senexx I'm using it on trial. I like the way you can nominate folders for syncing without having to move them. #
  • @laceyhd @adrallud The problem began in 1992 when they split the subject in 2. It declined further as myriad subjects were introduced. #
  • @laceyhd @adrallud Like other subjects, it only survives in schools committed to running it, even when numbers drop. Elsewhere, forget it. #
  • @adrallud @laceyhd The original split cannibalised the teaching cohort and set up an artificial competition between the two subjects. #
  • @laceyhd It was the same at LMH. Numbers generally held up but the key was knowing it wouldn't be dropped if you had a dip one year. #
  • @adrallud The old-old course from the 80s was the ideal model. 10 topics, 6 domestic, 4 foreign, had to do at least one from each. #
  • @adrallud That way teachers could specialise in their area of interest without disappearing into their own little bubble. Very collegial. #
  • @camryanaus Mmm, tricky. I quite like what OpenDrive offers but the trial app I'm running is very clunky. Hard to choose. #
  • @adrallud That's true too. Once a Pol teacher moved on, the subject often died if no-one else was around to keep it going. #
  • If you haven't read Minchin's letter to Hockey, do yourself a favour: http://auspol.info/kVq9yM (PDF) #
  • @drng He does a nice line in quiet and menacing! #
  • @laceyhd I know. With the benefit of some years distance, I'm amazed at how little these people understand about actual schools. #
  • Is it just me or is there something quite strange about that article by John Black in the Fin Review today? #
  • Lindsay Tanner on Gough Whitlam at 95: http://auspol.info/j6RJYJ #
  • @liam_dwyer Thanks – haven't heard of them before but will have a look. #
  • @GeoffPolHist As a student contemporary of his, I suspect he might not have met the age requirements… #
  • @Fluffula http://youtu.be/JLDVIViWW74 #

  • Ten hours after this was posted, & having now taken in the news, I have to say I think I got it completely wrong. http://auspol.info/k5GHwZ #

  • Gillard is a chorus of one on Afghanistan: http://auspol.info/jpqAZF – scathing piece from Cynthia Banham. #
  • Newspoll three-month-figures (April-June) http://auspol.info/iOaPeK – state breakdown shows Swan would lose seat, only Rudd left in Qld. #
  • Dennis Shanahan: Polling shows the symptom, not cause. http://auspol.info/lb6N2F #
  • @Kimbo_Ramplin Some of them deserve it… but you're right, they just continue to cock it up. Today was a classic case. #
  • @wombat1974 As reluctant as many pro-Labor people will be to accept it, Shanahan shows why. http://auspol.info/lb6N2F #
  • Barry O'Farrell accused of spending too much time on Twitter: http://auspol.info/mrWuP7 – by one unnamed Liberal MP, apparently. #
